Warren says: "This music was improvised live to a 2-track digital at my home
studio in London. The spontaneous creations captured on this CD are what I consider
to be music in its purest form - composition from literally, out of the blue."
He described it to me in 1998 as very "stream-of-consciousness" playing
between himself and Shankar. The press release describes it as "atmospheric
music with guitar, violins and vocals."
Who's Shankar? Shankar
is a musician who has been friends with Warren for a long time. According to Warren,
Shankar started with John McLaughlin in a band called Shakti. He was a popular
Indian classical musician who played traditional Indian classical music, and with
McLaughlin, he was introduced into the fusion world and established his name playing
violin. After that, Shankar did his own projects and began working with Peter
Gabriel, including the WOMAD festivals. Shankar was in a band called The Epidemics
in the mid 80's, and Warren played guitar on one of their albums. Shankar has
also played on movie soundtracks, including The Last Temptation Of Christ.
Besides all that, he worked with Frank Zappa on the 1978 tour.
